Altova StyleVision includes powerful XBRL rendering tools, allowing users to create visually engaging, easy-to-understand reports from complex XBRL data.
XBRL is a standard for electronic data exchange in business reporting, commonly used for financial data. With StyleVision, you can transform this structured, often intricate data into clear, readable formats like HTML, PDF, and Word, which is crucial for organizations that need to share financial or regulatory information with stakeholders in an accessible way. This report generation capability not only ensures regulatory compliance but also enhances decision-making by making financial data more transparent and user-friendly.
StyleVision’s visual design model radically simplifies XBRL-related reporting and analysis, making it possible for business domain experts without deep XML expertise to leverage the full power of XBRL. StyleVision’s support for XML, SQL database, and XBRL inputs also makes it possible to combine XBRL document-based content with data from other sources, all using a drag-and-drop design model that helps designers focus on business reporting needs instead of technologies.
To create an XBRL report in StyleVision, simply drag and drop a taxonomy financial statement onto the design pane as an XBRL table. The XBRL Table Wizard guides you in customizing the table structure and selecting the concepts you want to include. For the US-GAAP taxonomy, you can activate US-GAAP mode, and StyleVision will render the table automatically based on this information.
If your taxonomy includes XBRL Table Linkbase definitions, StyleVision will automatically render the table based on these parameters, making it fast and straightforward to publish XBRL tables within your reports.
Charts and graphs are tools for visualizing data in financial and business reports. StyleVision includes comprehensive support for chart creation and even includes a specialized XBRL Chart Wizard. You can customize the data rendered in your charts simply by selecting the desired category or series values (Concept and Period are the defaults) in the properties dialog box. The Period Properties dialog box allows you to filter by XBRL periods, which describe the length of time for which a particular concept is being reported (i.e., instant, duration, or forever), so that you can make meaningful comparisons.
Chart styles and properties can be controlled using the All settings button in the Chart Wizard and/or by using the StyleVision entry helper windows, where you can select chart type, background color, fonts, alignment, etc.
Because iXBRL embeds XBRL in a human-readable HTML document, it’s an efficient means of decreasing the complexity of preparing and publishing financial reports while enabling the use of XBRL data by investors and other market participants.
To make rendering this output even easier, StyleVision includes an iXBRL Wizard for US-GAAP taxonomies that will automatically generate an iXBRL document based on definitions in the presentation linkbase.
When you load a US-GAAP taxonomy as a data source in StyleVision, the iXBRL Wizard will allows you to select which tables to create and to configure other options. Then, it will autogenerate the corresponding iXBRL document.
Each design you create to render XBRL data automatically publishes your report in Web and print-ready formats: HTML, PDF, RTF, Word, and plain text. Your design also generates a standards-conformant XSLT stylesheet to render XBRL in each output format, so that you can integrate the code into custom applications to, for example, automate XBRL rendering on a quarterly basis.
Using StyleVision to create reusable templates for publishing your financial data means that you do not have to rekey presentation reports every quarter and can eliminate the errors and time delays associated with manual data entry.
